On April 9, 1865, in South Central Virginia, a very important event in history happened. Lee surrendured to Grant. On April 7, 1865, Grant wrote a letter to Lee requesting Lee to surrendu.r The surrendurign took place in Appomattox Courthouse. | ||||||||||||||||||||||||

Why would Lee surrendur? He only did because not only him, but also his troops were tired and hungry, but they also knew that Grant's forces were too large for Lee's. | ||||||||||||||||||||||||

As a result of Lee surrenduring, his troops were paroled to return home, and all of their equipment was to be surrendured. | 25,000 rations were issued by the union army to the confederates.
